چکیده

SUMMARY Antigens from a rat astrocytoma cell line were compared with those from normal rat liver and normal rat brain by the immunodiffusion and immunoelectrophoresis techniques. Antigens that appeared to be specific to the tumor cells were observed. Although these were predominantly in the soluble fraction, a small but distinct amount of the antigens were found to be membrane bound. The existence of tumor-specific soluble and membrane antigens in astrocytoma lends support to the feasibility of immunotherapy for the brain tumors.

Identification, Prevention and management of platelet refractoriness

Abstract Background and Objectives Platelet refractoriness can be caused by immunological and non-immunological factors. In non-immunological cases, the source which is usually a disease, should be eliminated. In immunological cases antibodies produced against foreign platelet antigens play a significant role. The aim of this review was to investigate the strategies involved in identifying ...

The Immunological Specificity of Chemically Altered Proteins Halogenated and Nitrated Proteins by Arthur Wormall

The immunological specificity of protein antigens has interesting aspects from the chemical viewpoint. Protein specificity appears to be closely associated with, and dependent on, chemical differences in the protein molecules. In most instances these differences are such that it is not possible to distinguish between similar proteins of different species by the usual methods of chemical investi...

HIV's evasion of the cellular immune response.

Despite a strong cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response directed against viral antigens, untreated individuals infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) develop AIDS. We have found that primary T cells infected with HIV-1 downregulate surface MHC class I antigens and are resistant to lysis by HLA-A2-restricted CTL clones. In contrast, cells infected with an HIV-1 in which the nef ge...

Chemo-immunological Studies on Conjugated Carbohydrate-proteins Ii. Immunological Specificity of Synthetic Sugar-protein Antigens

The function of carbohydrates as determinative substances in bacterial specificity is well illustrated in the immunological differentiation of thespecific types of pneumococci and of Friedlander bacilli. Previous studies have demonstrated that the presence of type-specific polysaccharides in these encapsulated organisms determines the antigenic properties of the cell and the serological relatio...
